No fuss, no muss.

And that is how I made the magical effects in THIS picture.

Imagine a dragon at Antiques Roadshow, appraising its hoard

Imagine the dragon hoards monetarily worthless things like newspapers or old bones and the person appraising it getting more and more nervous about telling the dragon their stuff isnt worth anything

Imagine that the dragon knows this and just likes watching the person squirm.

The dragon actually hoards uncomfortable situations

♦ FULL SIZE IMAGE OF TUTORIAL CAN BE FOUND HERE

A quick tutorial made with support from my patreon! This is a simple method I like to use when it comes to sci-fi flares. It’s also a very nice base to build up on if you want more complex lights, as shown in the last image.

Some extras to the tutorial:

♦This is a simple guide on how I make straight lines into flares. You can use whatever method you like with whatever brushes you like. The brush settings tool (F5) allows you to customize your brush in infinite ways, and it can give you interesting results! For most flares , You will need to set your shape dynamics box’s brush size to pen pressure to give that tapered end most lights have.

♦ The results will vary according to the settings you use on your FX layer and Layer Style settings you use Remember to keep it simple and do not go overboard, as it can easily overpower your drawing.

♦ Don’t get discouraged, just keep playing with settings until you find something you like.

I hope you find this useful :)! I may make a couple more flares like the last two examples and upload them as a PSD to download, who knows. Let me know what you think
